PRP or “Platelet-Rich Plasma” naturally utilizes your own platelets to create new collagen for tighter and younger looking skin and has no risk of allergy or rejection.*
An incredible amount of research has been done to understand the role of platelets in healing. A platelet’s role in clot formation is well known, but that is only a fraction of what they are capable of doing. Platelets contain hundreds of proteins called growth factors, which are very important in signaling stem cells to regenerate and repair tissues, thus rejuvenating areas in need. For this reason, PRP could be considered a form of stem cell therapy.
PRP Injection Therapy: PRP injection therapy is a completely natural, nonsurgical procedure where we use PRP to stimulate collagen, hyaluronic acid and elastin in your skin that is going to rejuvenate your face giving you a youthful appearance.* The purpose of the injections is to smooth facial wrinkles, provide facial volume correction, improve texture of the skin and rejuvenate your complexion.*
Procedure Expectations: We obtain Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP) by drawing a small amount of blood from your arm into a sterile tube, similar to a lab draw. This sample is specifically processed and prepared allowing the isolation of the platelet rich portion of the plasma from the rest of the blood. The platelets – and, thereby, the concentration of growth factors – can be 5-10 times greater (or richer) than usual. Once the PRP has been concentrated for maximal benefit, it is put into a small syringe and the PRP is placed under the skins surface in areas of needed of restoration.
First, we apply a topical numbing gel to the area to make the procedure more comfortable. A doctor then injects the areas of the face that are demonstrating areas of decreased skin elasticity, fine and course wrinkles, pigment change, thinning of the dermis (which is volume loss) and loss of collagen as indicated by sagging and drooping areas.
Areas PRP Injection Therapy has shown benefits:*
With each injection you will see a large amount of volume (of your own PRP) in the injection site. This disperses within a few hours, spreading like honey under the dermis.
This nonsurgical in-office procedure of collection and processing of your blood takes less than 15 minutes. Typical procedure time ranges from 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the severity of tissue deficit and number/size of areas addressed.
Sometimes bruising, swelling and redness at the injection site can occur and you may experience some tenderness at injection sites. However, these should dissipate within a few days following the procedure.
Typically, 3 to 6 appointments spread out over the course of 4 weeks provide the best results*. To maintain the collagen production and skin tightening effect, after the initial series, maintenance appointments should be done every 3 or 4 months.
PRP injection therapy can be safely used along with Botox and hyaluronic fillers, however appropriate timing of procedures needs to be considered and discussed prior to the procedure.
