I have always had a strong curiosity in knowing how things work and solving complex problems by analyzing them from various angles.  In the field of medicine specifically, I work in a way that is analogous to putting a puzzle together.  There is typically a lot of previous lab results, chart notes, and reports that are available, but I find that no other practitioner has really listened to what is going on for the patient.  What is their experience of their issues?  By combining all of this information, I work to uncover the common thread that ties all of those pieces together in order to find underlying causes and the most indicated solutions.  What I most enjoy about practicing naturopathic medicine is that the human body is a three dimensional puzzle where the pieces are always moving independent of one another and a simple algorithm will not suffice to create a long term solution. The intersection of my curiosity in how the body works and my own journey with chronic illness led me into the field of naturopathic medicine.

Beginning in my early teens, I began experiencing frequent abdominal pain, a few episodes here and there progressed to daily struggles.  A few of these episodes even warranted my parents to take me to the ER.  After several visits to the doctor over the pursuant years and different prescription medications, there was no change in my health.  At this point, I was losing weight, had become avoidant of eating for fear of pain, having severe insomnia, and doing poorly in school because I could not concentrate.  I also began to withdraw and became depressed and anxious for which I was referred to a psychiatrist for further medication.

The mom of my girlfriend at the time was a nurse with a strong interest in alternative medicine.  She suggested I go and see a naturopathic doctor that she had heard of for possible answers.  This experience opened my eyes and reignited my curiosity to an entirely new paradigm in medicine.  It was the first time I became passionate about health and medicine as my health steadily improved.  In was that journey that completely changed the course of my life.  I went on to receive my bachelor’s degree in Psychology from University of Washington and my doctorate in Naturopathic Medicine from Bastyr University.

I have now been in practice for over 15 years and remain dedicated to improving the health of patients of any age.  I have always had strong interest in the merging of technology and medicine and am always searching for new technologies that can provide more accuracy, efficiency, and paradigm disrupting methods to the diagnosing and healing of patients.

When I’m not reading, most of my downtime is spent in nature, whether it is hiking with my wife and two dogs, paddle boarding, scuba diving, or just hanging out at the beach.  I also love traveling and am fascinated by the ocean.
